Ugunja residents raise alarm over rising cases of house break-ins and livestock theft

Police in Madungu area, Ugunja sub-county, have launched investigations following a series of house break-ins and theft of livestock in the last couple of weeks.
In Nyahera village, Vitalis Oloo, one of the latest victims of livestock theft, said the criminals destroyed the structures housing his cows, sheep, and chickens before stealing them.
Dominic Omondi, another victim, said, “Since December, the villages of Nyahera, Luoka and Ombonya have known no peace as they have been robbed of livestock, and household appliances and some have even been killed.”
Locals lamented that despite reporting the matter to the police, no action has been taken.
However, Siaya police commander Cleti Kemboi, said cases of livestock theft on the border of Siaya and Kakamega counties have reduced significantly, adding that they have leads to suspects and investigations are ongoing.
