Unforgettable journey: 21-year-old mother recounts birth experience in a taxi

At the tender age of 20 and expecting her first child, Maureen's (not her real name) life took an unexpected turn.

Now, this 21-year-old mother has an absolutely adorable one-year-old son to cherish. The pregnancy came as a shock to Maureen, who was unaware of her due date and had little focus on it.
 
The remarkable story began on a seemingly ordinary day during her internship in Westlands, Nairobi. While in the washroom, she suddenly felt a slight pain while taking a shot call.
 
Sensing the urgency of the situation, Maureen took a taxi back to her hostel and sought help from her friend who was a nursing student.

Together, they hurriedly hailed another cab towards the hospital.

The intensity mounted when her water broke during the ride, and moments later, her baby arrived!

“Thanks to the quick-thinking driver, we made it to the nearest hospital along Thika Road in record time,” she told Citizen Digital.

The doctors swooped in like superheroes, rescuing Maureen and her newborn, rushing them both to the delivery ward.

Maureen recounts how smooth her delivery was - without labor pains - admitting that she'd never even known when she was due.
 
"I used to walk around a lot, maybe that's why my delivery was so smooth," she mused.
 
Though frightened at times throughout the experience, she remains ever-grateful for "the precious gift" she received from above.

Amidst all of this complexity and adjusting to life as a mother, she found immense joy in raising her healthy son with unwavering support from both parents and even his grandmother's help.
