The victim, who hails from Mago Village, was identified as Lucy Adhiambo Ouma.
According to Deputy County Commissioner Betha Onyango, witnesses reported that a passerby raised the alarm after seeing the crocodile dragging the woman into the water.
Confirming the incident, Onyango stated that teams from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the National Government Administrative officers responded promptly.
They collaborated with locals and successfully retrieved the body from the water about two hours later.
Onyango urged residents to exercise caution along the riverbanks, especially during the rainy season when water levels are high, and crocodiles are more active.
Lucy’s body was taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital morgue ahead of the postmortem.
Police advised locals to minimise their time at the river, warning against activities such as washing clothes and dishes to reduce the risk of crocodile attacks.
Meanwhile, residents led by former councillor John Obera Ombere have condemned the rise in crocodile attacks and called on the government to intervene.
