A prison officer has been arrested in connection with the murder of a female Nakuru GK Prison warder.

The body of Caroline Jepchirchir Chesire, 25, was found dumped in a thicket at Githioro Village in Subukia, Nakuru County on Wednesday evening.

The prison warder’s body had bruises, indicating she was tortured before being killed.

Preliminary investigations show Ms Chesire’s body was thrown down a hill before landing in the thicket.

Her sandals, which were spotted by a child, were retrieved near the scene.

Ms Chesire had gone missing slightly over a week ago, her father, Micah Chesire, says.

Micah says he had tried reaching his daughter on phone several times, but he couldn’t get ahold of her.

“We were planning a family meeting, and I wanted her to come. However, we couldn’t reach her on phone, prompting us to alert authorities,” said the deceased’s father, a police officer stationed in Kericho County.

Rift Valley Regional Prisons boss, Dancun Ogore, said a male prison officer, who was the last person seen with Ms Chesire, has been arrested as police hunt for another officer.

Mr Ogore said April 9 was the seventh consecutive day Ms Chesire was missing from work.
