A 28-year-old man was on Tuesday sentenced to 30 years in prison by a Kakamega court for killing his uncle.

Ezekiel Barasa Shibweche was brought before Judge Chirchir Chebet and accused that on the night between the 14th and 15th of April 2019 at Shikokhwe village in Malava, Kakamega County, he attacked Isaac Barasa and killed him using a blunt weapon.

Delivering the sentence, Judge Chebet mentioned that according to the evidence presented in court, the defendant was found guilty.

The court noted that Shibweche has also been addicted to smoking marijuana since childhood after dropping out of school in the third grade and has been involved in cases of insecurity.

Defending himself before the court, Shibweche apologised, saying that during the time he has been in remand, he has managed to reform himself and if he is released, he will not repeat the wrongdoings.

However, Judge Chebet ordered the 30-year sentence, to be implemented from April 24, 2019, which is the day the defendant was brought to court, The court further gave Shibweche 14 days to appeal the sentence.
