75-year-old man among 270 couples participating in mass wedding in Kwale ahead of Ramadan

The exercise officiated by Chief Kadhi Athman Abdulhalim on Monday was aimed at ensuring that couples observe the holy month of Ramadan in accordance with the Islamic faith. 

The mass solemnisation ceremonies have been held annually to reduce the cost of weddings.

Moses Mwinyi, a 75-year-old man who participated in the mass ceremony, said he was happy to solemnise his union.

He said, “I’m glad I’ve gotten to solemnise my union even at my age.”

Mwinyi Omar, another attendee, said that the annual ceremonies are beneficial in ensuring couples get a chance to solemnise their unions.

He said, “I have two wives and it comes with many challenges. I’m happy I have made the step to solemnise our unions.”
