The grand opening on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, drew guests, customers, and partners who took part in cake tastings and enjoyed opening-day discounts.
The development reflects an emerging trend in urban real estate: the rise of compact, integrated shopping hubs that offer convenience, essential services, and lifestyle options in one space. These centres are becoming increasingly attractive to retailers aiming to reach customers in accessible, everyday locations.
Founded in 2012, Cake City has grown from a single outlet to a bakery chain with 14 branches across Nairobi, Machakos, and Kiambu counties, along with a central call centre and a growing online presence.
“This new branch is part of our strategy to be closer to our customers,” said CEO Mohammed Zahir. “We’re expanding to meet demand for convenient, high-quality cake experiences.”
Alongside its physical expansion, the company has embraced digital innovation. At the 2025 Kenya E-Commerce Awards, Cake City received top honours in the Best Bakery/Cake E-Commerce Platform category, highlighting its investment in a user-friendly platform for browsing, customizing, and ordering cakes online.
