Rapper and content creator Diana Marua has shared a personal story of growing up in a strained family.

In a conversation with her sister, Diana recalled how life in the hands of their father became unbearable after their parents separated.

“We were raised by dad and helps, the helps never used to last long and it reached a point where we were traumatised. We kept reaching out to mum to come and see us because dad was so strict

The rapper, whose stage name is Diana B says her mother was not part of their lives after the separation, and would take long to visit them at home.

She recalled a day when her young sister had been beaten badly by their father, and couldn’t even walk.

“I was disappointed with her, she saw my sitter’s state and asked us to pack and leave.”

Their joy did not last long as their mother took them back to dad’s place after a few days.

Diana says life in the hands of their father was unbearable, and her siblings would sometimes run away from home to seek shelter in deserted houses.

The mother of two recalls the day she received a strange call from her mother who was weak and ailing.

“She called while crying saying ‘she loves me but can not’ and the phone dropped. I picked my bag and left, arrived in Kitengela at 7.30, “she said.

An hour after the visit, Diana was told that her mother had passed on.

While raising a family, Diana says she is conscious about how she wants to bring up her family differently.

She says when her marriage to Bahati was still new, she had anger that she might havepicked from her childhood experience.
