Residents of Eastleigh in Nairobi want the ever-growing heaps of garbage littering Malewa Road in the populous estate removed.

Pictures seen by Wananchi Reporting show garbage sitting on the side of the road – and covering part of the road surface.

Motorists and pedestrians are reportedly finding it difficult navigating the littered road especially at night.

Also, residents say they are having to put up with the annoying smell of rotting garbage that has now become part of the estate furniture.

"Most of the illegal dumping happen at night, when people are asleep. Hamisi Daudi, a resident of Eastleigh told Wananchi Reporting.

“Residents here fear for their health because of the rotting garbage and the chocking smell,” said Daudi.

The residents want the garbage collected regularly, and if possible, CCTV cameras to be mounted near the road to help apprehend culprits.

The residents are also asking members of the community to work together to curb illegal dumping and littering.
