ODM Secretary General
Edwin Sifuna has addressed a confrontation between him and blogger Robert Alai
during an Azimio coalition rally on Saturday.
While Azimio
presidential running mate Martha Karua was addressing the crowd, Sifuna and
Alai, who were on top of a car, got involved in a physical scuffle that was captured on camera.
Speaking on Capital
FM, Edwin Sifuna, who is contesting for the Nairobi Senatorial seat on an ODM
ticket said that the scuffle was not as bad as people made it.
Sifuna explained that
he was preventing Robert Alai, who is eyeing Kileleshwa MCA seat on an ODM Party ticket from climbing on top of his car.
“It was just a safety issue,
that was my vehicle, and as you know cars have a carrying capacity….he is not a
light guy,” Sifuna said.
“If I show you my
windshield now, it is shattered, I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero that I use for
the campaigns, and I took it to the shop to have a roof rack installed. So if
you are going to come on my car, please come to the top.”
According to Sifuna,
he tried to talk to Alai but the MCA aspirant was adamant, forcing him to take
action.
“I was trying to tell
him to get off because we were just too many people on the vehicle but he did
not want to listen, so I had to ease him off,” he said.
Contrary to Sifuna’s explanation, earlier reports had indicated that the scuffle was as a result of Robert Alai being denied a chance to address the crowd in the Azimio rally.
