Eldoret: 36 Saba Saba protesters freed on Ksh.5K cash bail each

The group was arrested yesterday within the areas of Huruma, Roadblock, and Mail Nne during Sabasaba demonstrations.
The 36 were arraigned before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Mukabi Kimani on Tuesday before being released on Ksh.50,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount or Ksh.10,000 cash bail.
Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the arrest of 77 suspects during the Monday protests, with 41 more set to be arraigned on Wednesday, July 9.
Mwanthi said police managed to contain groups of marauding youth with no reports of vandalism despite running battles that extended into late night.
The case will be mentioned on July 21, 2025.
Elsewhere, a Narok Court freed 24 suspects, accused of obstructing traffic during the Saba Saba protests.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate George Sagero, the suspects pleaded not guilty and were granted a Ksh.5,000 cash bail each or a Ksh.20,000 bond.
