The county government of Uasin Gishu fire brigade, together with other rescue teams, are continuing with the search for the body of a third-year male student who drowned in River Kesses on Sunday after attempting to swim with friends.
According to witnesses, the strong currents at Kesses Falls swept the student away just minutes after he entered the river, which has been swelling following heavy rainfall experienced recently in the region.
Fredrick Serem, the county assistant director of Fire and Disaster Management, said efforts are focused on retrieving the body as soon as possible.
Serem urged Moi University students to remain calm and allow the divers adequate time to carry out the operation.
Tension arose when some students attempted to pressure rescue teams and residents to speed up the search, prompting intervention from police officers to restore order.
