Gor Mahia moved a step closer to their 22nd FKF Premier League title after a 2-1 win over Shabana in their Matchday 25 clash at Nyayo Stadium.
With nine matches remaining, Gor Mahia strengthened their
position at the top of the table in a closely contested match that saw both
teams create chances, especially in the first half.
The hosts took the lead through Jackson Dwang, who finished
off a well-worked attacking move by curling the ball into the top corner.
Shabana responded quickly, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up in the Gor
Mahia backline.
Wycliffe Omondi capitalized on the error, heading past
goalkeeper Gad Mathews to level the score before halftime. The teams went into
the break tied at 1-1.
The second half was more controlled, with fewer clear
chances from both sides. Gor Mahia regained the lead from a set piece, as
Patrick Dwang delivered a corner that found captain Alpha Onyango at the far
post on the 79th minute. Onyango converted to make it 2-1, a goal
that proved decisive.
The result sees Gor Mahia maintain their lead at the top of
the table with 56 points, now ten ahead of second-placed AFC Leopards. Shabana
remain third with 40 points.
In other matches, Kenya Police FC returned to winning ways
with a 2-1 victory over KCB FC. Mara Sugar FC played out a 0-0 draw with APS
Bomet FC in Awendo, while Sofapaka FC ended their losing run after a goalless
draw against Bidco United FC.
