The Archdiocese of Nairobi has dismissed reports alleging that Cardinal John Njue had passed away, terming the claims as false and without foundation.

In a statement released on Friday, Reverend Wallace Ng'ang'a, Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi, confirmed that the Cardinal is alive and urged Kenyans to disregard the rumours spreading online.

Earlier, reports circulated online that the Cardinal had allegedly passed away, with the topic trending in Kenya for the better part of the morning.

Further, the reverend appealed to the public to desist from sharing information, particularly on sensitive matters, without verifying the facts.

"We kindly urge all to refrain from sharing or entertaining unverified information, particularly on sensitive matters such as this. Should there be any official communication regarding His Eminence's health or any other matter, it will be conveyed through official Church channels," the statement read in part.

"We ask that you continue to keep Cardinal Njue in your prayers and we wish him continued good health and blessings."
