George Ochieng Okumu, a resident of Radiro Village in Homa Bay Town Sub-County, is celebrating after scoring a D+ in the 2025 KCSE examinations, 34 years after he first sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Okumu, who did his KCPE in 1992, described his achievement as a dream come true, noting that he had struggled for decades to secure employment despite having various skills, a situation he says denied him better opportunities.
The joy was doubled for the family after Okumu sat for the KCSE alongside his second-born son, Brennon Arsen Ochieng, who was studying at Orero Boys High School, and scored a mean grade of B (minus).
Speaking after receiving the results, Okumu said his son inspired him to return to school and urged other Kenyans with similar dreams to register for examinations early, especially as the 8-4-4 education system nears its end.
On his part, Arsen said he was proud of his father’s determination and hard work, adding that he was not ashamed to have sat the examinations at the same time with him.
He lauded his father for achieving a commendable result despite spending many years out of school.
