Traders at Amoyo Centre in West Kanyadoto, Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County, have raised concerns over a prolonged four-month electricity outage.

The business community is urging Kenya Power to compensate them for losses amounting to millions of shillings caused by the blackout.

Led by Benard Odingo, the traders took to the streets to protest Kenya Power’s failure to restore electricity, saying the outage has crippled their businesses.

Odingo, who relies on refrigeration to sell goods, said he can no longer operate, while another trader, Maurice Ogalo, lamented that his welding business has collapsed.

Many salons and barber shops have also shut down as a result of the power problem.

The traders have appealed to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to intervene and help restore power supply in the area.
