Jumia Kenya has named insider Juan Seco as its new CEO replacing ex-Britam Chief Betty Mwangi who departs after just eight months at the helm.

In a statement, the company says Ms Mwangi has left to pursue a ‘big impact opportunity’.

The incoming CEO has been with Jumia Kenya since 2015 when he joined as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Juan later became part of the founding team of JumiaPay as Chief Operating Officer (COO) overseeing the expansion and deployment of JumiaPay across Jumia markets.

In 2019, Juan was named the Senior Vice President of Consumer Financial Services leading fintech initiatives and the JumiaPay App.

Betty Mwangi took the mantle of leadership at Jumia Kenya from Sam Chappate who was promoted to a senior role within the Group after serving as CEO for five years.

Mwangi previously served as the Group Commercial Director for Britam between 2016 and 2021.

She previously worked as the Director of Financial Services for Safaricom’s M-Pesa during its formative years from 2007 to 2016.
