Kenya’s para athletes are leaving nothing to chance as they gear up for this month’s Championships in New Delhi, India.
The team held an intensive training session today at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, with coaches focusing on fine-tuning techniques and building confidence ahead of the global showdown.
The training brought together athletes
across multiple disciplines — including field events and track sprints — all
eager to represent Kenya on the world stage. The session emphasized endurance,
speed drills, and mental preparation, with coaches urging the athletes to
maintain discipline and peak fitness as competition day draws closer.
“We are working on speed, endurance,
and most importantly, mental strength,” said Head Coach Henry Kirwa, adding “we are calling on all Kenyans to support these athletes — whether you’re
at work, in a restaurant, or watching from home. Your encouragement means everything
and will push the team to give their very best.”
For many of the athletes, these championships carry an opportunity to write the wrongs from the past, and give a better performance on the world stage.
“So far the training has been good as the way you see. This year won’t be like other years, this year will be full of medals,” said shot putter Rajab Chetty.
“My target is to be on top and to bring
glory back home, being the first shot putter under F11 category. I want to make
history,” he added.
T47 sprinter Stency Neema echoed those
sentiments, adding “the camp is good, we’re preparing well. We believe we’re
going to do our best…this time we're well prepared.”
Team officials expressed optimism that Kenya will deliver a strong performance in New Delhi, building on the country’s growing reputation in para sports.
“We’re prepared for the world, expect good
things and we’re going to make the country proud. Expect a lot of medals,” said
KNPC President Ronald Milare.
The team will continue its preparations across the country in the coming days, before travelling to New Delhi on September 24 to acclimatise ahead of the Championships - which kick off on the 27th.
With elite para-athletes from around the world expected to compete, the event will be a key test for Kenya’s contingent.
