Kenyans are dissatisfied with the overall performance of President William Ruto and his administration one year into office.

This is according to an end-of-year poll conducted by research firm Infotrak whose findings were released on Friday.

Kenyans who took part in the survey conducted on 18th December - 19th December, rated President Ruto's overall performance in 2023 at grade D with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua getting the lowest score of grade E.

The public also appeared displeased with the performance of Cabinet Secretaries, the National Assembly, the Senate, the Judiciary, the police, the opposition and county governments, with all being given a grade D.

"This widespread dissatisfaction paints a clear picture: Kenyans expect better. The writing is on the wall, a stern message for all leaders entrusted with shaping the nation's future. As we step into 2024, the hope is for significant improvement," reads the survey in part.

According to the poll, the key issue of concern for the majority of Kenyans at 56 percent and which they want addressed as a matter of priority is the high cost of living.

36 percent of Kenyans are concerned about the high taxation followed by the cost of fuel at 33 percent, unemployment (27%), access to affordable healthcare (15%), corruption (13%) and food security (13%).

The poll further shows that compared to December 2022, the number of Kenyans who feel the country is headed in the wrong direction has grown by 7 percent from 55 percent to 61 percent.

"Currently, three out of five Kenyans express unhappiness with the country's current trajectory. This sentiment is particularly strong among 64% women and almost 7 in I 0 youth aged 18-25 years."

"Notably, this sense of unease seems to permeate all regions. Over half of Kenyans in all eight regions surveyed now feel the country is off track with Nyanza and Western leading the pack at 72% and 69% respectively," adds the poll.
