Leading the calls for the refurbishment is Kenya
Women Premier League club, Zetech Sparks, whose head coach Bernard Kitolo is lamenting over the stadium's poor state, noting that it poses major challenge to the team.
According
to Kitolo, the poor state of the pitch has had adverse impact on his players
including picking up of injuries while travelling to other venues to honour their
home matches has had an adverse effect on their finances.
“The
state of this stadium is really bad, there are no games that can be played here
and this forces us to rent alternative stadiums which are really expensive. I
would like to call on the Kiambu county government to refurbish the stadium,’’
said Kitolo.
The
poor state of the facility has also taken a toll on FKF Division One club, Ruiru Hot Stars FC who have
had to seek alternative venues, and club secretary general Ouma Odhiambo now
wants quick action.
“We
have been forced to rent stadiums which is expensive considering we have to
travel and also our fans don’t get to see us play,” Odhiambo lamented. “Community
teams are also dying since there is no stadium for them to train or
play in,” lamented Odhiambo.
Zetech who compete in the FKF Women Premier League sit sixth on the 12-team table with 27 points from 18 matches.
