Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has urged residents in Nairobi to help address cases of noise pollution in their neighborhoods.
Speaking on The Hot Breakfast on Hot 96 FM, hosted by Jeff Koinange and Nick Odhiambo, Alai called for strict measures adding this will help contain the noise from entertainment establishments.
His sentiments come after the Nairobi Liquor Licensing Board (NLLB) earmarked 43 notorious bars that are set to lose licenses following numerous complaints from residents.
“That list is not complete as we speak. In Nairobi, we have close to 12,500 bars. Even the most developed cities do not have this many bars,” Alai said.
Alai however called for a proper way of handling the matter so as to prevent job losses.
“I would hate to see anybody close down their business. That is why we are calling for the creation of special entertainment districts where people can have fun without disturbing other people’s peace.”
Meanwhile, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia called for dialogue in efforts to chart a way forward that will protect business owners and residents. The board agreed not to close any bars till such dialogue has ensued. “Ngatia noted.
