The Kenya Ports
Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team arrived safely in Egypt yesterday ahead
of the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), set to run from Friday, December
5th to 14th.
KPA booked their
ticket to the continental tournament after finishing third in the Zone Five
Qualifiers held two weeks ago at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium in
Nairobi.
In a bid to strengthen
their technical bench for the competition, the Dockers have appointed Lebanese
tactician Nabil Kabalan—the current assistant coach of the Libya National Team
and Al Ahly Tripoli—as head coach for the WBLA campaign.
From the squad that
featured in the Zone 5 qualifiers, KPA have maintained most of their core
players but made two changes. Nigeria’s Okoro Ifunaya and Senegal’s Aminata Ly—who
have since secured professional contracts in Lebanon and Portugal,
respectively—have been replaced by American guard Sara Dickey and American
forward A'llexxus Johnson.
A total of 15 players
have travelled to Egypt, although only 12 will be officially submitted for the
tournament roster.
Traveling Squad:
Natalie Mwangale
(Captain), Mercy Wanyama, Betty Kananu, Selina Okumu, Aminata Samasekou, Alima
Doumbia, Yvone Atieno, Vilma Achieng, Daisy Awino, Rachel, Wandago, Babra
Achieng, Sara Dickey, A'llexxus Johnson, Emily Rawayo, Cynthia Mawero.
