Retired Chief Justice David Maraga has said the country is moving in the wrong direction due to poor leadership and governance.

Maraga, who is the United Green Movement (UGM) Party's presidential flag bearer, said President William Ruto’s regime is entangled in rampant corruption, accusing civil servants of looting public resources, crippling service delivery across key sectors.

“I will deal with this. I will correct all this and take our country to where it should be. I want to stop theft of public funds,” said Maraga.

Speaking during a voter registration drive in Kinango Constituency, Kwale County, Maraga blamed corruption for the ongoing crisis in the education sector, warning that continued mismanagement threatens the country’s future.

He expressed concern over theft of public resources and the high rate of youth unemployment.

“Kenya is not poor. It is just that money meant for our schools is stolen. We have seen many times money is sent to non-existent schools… non existent hospitals,” said the former Chief Justice.
