Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi has rejected ongoing calls to impeach Siaya Governor James Orengo, arguing that the process is unnecessary with the next general election less than a year away.

Atandi says that he would not participate in the impeachment debate, insisting that Orengo should instead be challenged at the ballot.

The lawmaker on Sunday stated that there was no need to oust the governor, as he would be defeated in the 2027 general elections.

Atandi, also the chairman of National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriation committee, warned that pursuing impeachment would be a waste of time and resources, describing it as a tedious process that could distract leaders from development priorities.

He therefore urged those pushing for Orengo’s removal to abandon the plan.

The MP further accused Governor Orengo of aligning himself former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and that he had already left the county politically.

He alleged that Orengo was undermining the legacy of the late Raila Odinga, with whom he had long claimed close ties.

Atandi further claimed that Orengo has always duped the Luo community into believing that he was close to the late Raila Odinga, yet he is the one currently sabotaging his cause. He therefore warned that unless the governor cooperates with local leaders, he is "going to begin the end of his many decades of political career."

While criticising Orengo’s leadership style, the MP accused him of political egoism and of misleading the Luo community.
