Longevity in the media industry requires more than visibility, Citizen TV news anchor, Lillian Muli, says. It demands discipline and the ability to evolve.

Speaking on She Means Business, Muli reflected on her more than 15 years in the Kenyan media industry, a career she says has been driven by a love for advocacy and storytelling. She noted that telling stories that inform, challenge, and amplify voices has been central to her work and remains her motivation.

Muli shared key lessons from her journey, including the importance of consistency, professionalism, and resilience in an industry that is constantly changing. She also addressed the realities of fame, including public scrutiny and the unspoken pressure to maintain a certain lifestyle. According to Muli, her relationship with money has shifted over the years, moving from lifestyle-driven spending to deliberate financial discipline.

She said maturity, life experience, and planning for the future have reshaped how she approaches money, with a stronger focus on saving, investing, and long-term security.

The conversation also explored parenting and career balance. Muli acknowledged the challenges of raising children while maintaining a demanding media career, emphasizing intentional time management and prioritisation.

Looking ahead, Muli expressed interest in agribusiness, inspired by her late father’s legacy, as well as other ventures in the media and advocacy space. He left behind a thriving farm that her mother continues to run successfully despite being located in a dry area in Ukambani. This, as she continues to make strides in the media industry.
