Former Simbas back Darwin Mukidza has achieved a new milestone after earning his World Rugby Level Two 15s coaching accreditation, marking steady progress in his transition from player to coach.

Mukidza, widely known as “The Smiling Assassin,” enjoyed a successful playing career with the Kenya Simbas, where he earned over 40 caps before retiring from international rugby on March 18, 2023.

A versatile back, he featured primarily as a fullback and winger, but was also effective at fly-half, earning recognition for his tactical awareness and reliable place-kicking.

At club level, Mukidza spent most of his career at KCB Rugby Club, where he served as vice-captain and helped the team win four Kenya Cup titles. He also had stints with Mombasa RFC and Mwamba Rugby Club. His individual achievements include multiple Kenya Cup Top Point Scorer awards and a Man of the Match performance in the 2016 Elgon Cup.

Since retiring, Mukidza has moved into coaching roles. He previously served as Assistant Backs Coach and Team Manager at KCB before taking up responsibilities at Nondescripts RFC, where he has been involved in player development.

The World Rugby Level Two certification is an important step in his coaching career and positions him for greater responsibilities within the sport.
