Thousands of Kenyans have attended the 62nd Madaraka Day Celebrations held at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.

The ceremony that will be led by President William Ruto saw crowds throng the stadium as early as Saturday midnight.

President William Ruto has arrived at the 12000-seater stadium which was filled to capacity by Saturday night.

The fete is graced by other leaders including ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, with Slovenia President Nataša Pirc Musar as the Chief Guest.

Homa Bay County is hosting the celebrations for the first time.

According to Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, the county was chosen because of its strategic location on the shores of Lake Victoria, making it the ideal venue to highlight the theme: ‘Harnessing Kenya’s Blue Economy for Sustainable Growth.
