Two people were killed and 11 others injured after a lorry collided head-on with a matatu at Kapmusa area along the Bomet–Kisii highway, police have said.

Bomet County Traffic Commander Daniel Ololngojine said the lorry, which was travelling from Kaplong towards Bomet town, veered off the road before crashing into a matatu belonging to Quarser Shuttle Company.

The matatu driver and one passenger died on the spot, police said.

Following the crash, seven injured passengers were rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital, while four others in critical condition were referred to Tenwek Hospital.

Among those injured are a two-year-old and an eight-year-old who sustained fractures and were reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the lorry driver fled the scene and is being sought.

The bodies were taken to Longisa Hospital mortuary, while the wreckage was towed to Bomet Central Police Station for inspection as investigations continue.
