Zetech Oaks are ready to silence their critics when
they make their Kenya Rugby Championship debut against veterans Impala
Saracens on November 26.
According to head coach Ramsfield Matekwa, some have
questioned their promotion to the league terming it a sheer luck thus firing up
their desire to start the league with a win to prove their critics wrong.
Matekwa has further warned seasoned clubs from looking
at them as underdogs saying that only their level of play will show their
deserved efforts to be playing in such higher rugby leagues.
“For the teams that we found in the league, we are
going to give our best to prove our worth in this league because we know there
those who have been saying that we are her by luck and we need to show them
that we are here because of our hard work and efforts,” said Matekwa.
Oaks have made several changes to the squad that won
the KRU Central Region league and fought off stiff competition in the playoffs
to book a slot in the Championships and Matekwa says the new players are well
equipped for the challenge ahead.
“I have like six new players who have joined us and
from the many friendlies that we have played with them, I can confidently say
that they have blended in and are playing as a unit,” added Matekwa.
In other matches scheduled for the opening week;
Nondescripts host Daystar University, South Coast pirates face USIU, Shamas
Foundation tackle Kisumu, Western Bulls play University of Eldoret as Kabarak
University face Eldoret.
