Gov’t increases cotton prices by 25% to Ksh.65 per kilo

The government has increased the price of a kilo of cotton to Ksh.65.

The new price represents a 25% hike compared to the current Ksh.52 per kilo by ginneries in the country.

In a statement by Industry Principal Secretary Juma Mukhwana, the new prices will take effect immediately to all cotton growing regions in the country.

The ministry says it is working with Governors from 24 counties to buy and avail more seeds next year.

The government hopes to increase cotton production from forty thousand acres this year to a hundred thousand acres next year.
