Academic Excellence: Kenyan cop on making history in India

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Njiraini said while in India he took it upon himself to study hard and make the most out of the scholarship.

In 2022, Chief Inspector Isaac Njiraini landed a scholarship to study Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication at the Central University of Punjab in India. Passionate about education, Njiraini went on to become the best student in his class, and indeed made history as the first ever African student to top his class in the history of the university.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Njiraini said while in India he took it upon himself to study hard and make the most out of the scholarship.

"I could stay up until around 2 am studying. I am passionate about excellence, and I wanted to get the best out of this," he said.

On graduation day, he was recognized with a Gold Medal, the highest reward for the best student. Njiraini was the first student of African descent to achieve the feat.

Back home, the National Police Service was ecstatic. The service celebrated his academic achievements, narrating how the chief inspector put in the hard work and earned the rewards.

"I was born in Mombasa, and when I lost my father at a young age, I knew I had to work hard to make ends meet. I always wanted to be a cop," he said.

Njiraini joined the National Police Service in 2017 upon graduating from Chuka University with a degree in criminology.

He worked his way through the ranks and furthered his studies. Today he works in the communication department of the NPS.
