She joined her current organisation - Quickmart - at an early stage, when it had three outlets, and grew alongside the business as it expanded to over 60. That period demanded long hours and hands-on involvement, as structures and systems were still being built. Over time, her role evolved, leading to her appointment as Chief Marketing Officer. Now at executive level, she is actively reflecting on her long-term career direction.
In the early years, work-life balance was difficult. Career took priority, and personal time was limited. With progression came greater control over her schedule and clearer priorities. Today, she makes time for what matters to her, including attending her son’s soccer games.
On leadership and power, Betty cites one principle from Robert Greene’s The 48 Laws of Power that has stayed with her: “Know who you’re dealing with—do not offend the wrong person.”
For her, understanding people and dynamics is as important as technical skill.
Betty’s story reflects a leadership journey defined by growth, awareness, and ongoing evaluation of what success looks like at different stages of life.
