Comedian Nasra Yusuf faces harsh criticism after 'insensitive' clip on Muslim men

Popular comedian Nasra Yusuf has come under fire after publishing a comedic video depicting Muslim men during Iftar.

The video, which seems to suggest that Muslim men normally pursue sexual satisfaction before embarking on any other activity during Iftar, was met with much derision and anger from a majority of her fanbase - most of whom are Muslims.

In the one-minute clip, Nasra, who is playing the role of a Muslim man, is seen seated on the couch as her 'wife' serves her a variety of bitings to break the fast.

As the woman of the house asks her husband what more he needs, Nasra, the man here, appears amorous as she asks the wife to turn around sexually.

"Kuja nikuonyeshe kitu utaanza nayo... Ngoja, sio hii pande. Nakuonyeshea bedroom, " Nasra's character says.

She then proceeds to usher the woman into the bedroom for what appears to be a sexual session before they both come out - much to the husband's satisfaction.

An evidently thrilled Nasra now settles back into the couch, asking her wife how she now feels.

"Iko aje? Sasa ile maneno ulikuwa unasema mi nataka, mi naanza nayo ile chakula chakula... Letea mimi saa hii..." she says.

"Lakini wewe iko sawa? Sindio? Iko sawa kabisa? Kila kitu iko pahali yake? Ama turudi?"

The hilarious clip, however, failed to incite laughter in much of her audience with many fans calling her out for trivialising her own religion and seemingly abusing the Muslim community, especially at a season as sacred as the Ramadan.

Fans berated Nasra for the clip they roundly termed 'unfunny', blasting her for grossly sexualizing what they viewed as a religious matter.

One displeased fan wrote, "Nasra, hope the likes and giggles from the non-Muslims who you pander to and for whom’s entertainment you mock your deen and dhaqan are worth it on the Day of Judgement!"

Another one said, "Look for better content, this is demeaning and disrespectful especially during this holy month. You have valued YouTube & Tiktok payments more than best deeds you can get in this month of Ramadhan. May Allah guide YOU & all of us."

On his part, X user Abdulahi Adan said, "Maybe in your world, but in the real world, no one in his right mind will break his fast with the "act." An empty stomach doesn't have time for such things, not to mention the Maghrib prayer one has to observe immediately after breaking the fast...If you are saying this is this how we break out fast, you got it wrong!"

After a barrage of unrelenting criticism - and some support from some unoffended fans - Nasra took to X to thank those who found no fault in her craft, reminding everyone that they could simply find a comedian they liked from the pool of Kenya's large comedic community.

"You guys just proved that Love will always surpass hate. Thank you for the support. I know I won’t be funny with every content and I won’t be funny to everyone," she wrote.

"And that’s why we have over 100 top comedians in the country...find your favorite and support him/her. Sawm maqbul🌙."
