Diana Marua recalls her life in the hands of strict dad, losing her mum

Rapper and
content creator Diana Marua has shared a personal story of growing up in a
strained family.
In a
conversation with her sister, Diana recalled how life in the hands of their
father became unbearable after their parents separated.
“We were
raised by dad and helps, the helps never used to last long and it reached a
point where we were traumatised. We kept reaching out to mum to come and see us
because dad was so strict
The rapper,
whose stage name is Diana B says her mother was not part of their lives after
the separation, and would take long to visit them at home.
She
recalled a day when her young sister had been beaten badly by their father, and
couldn’t even walk.
“I was disappointed
with her, she saw my sitter’s state and asked us to pack and leave.”
Their joy
did not last long as their mother took them back to dad’s place after a few
days.
Diana says
life in the hands of their father was unbearable, and her siblings would
sometimes run away from home to seek shelter in deserted houses.
The mother
of two recalls the day she received a strange call from her mother who was weak
and ailing.
“She called
while crying saying ‘she loves me but can not’ and the phone dropped. I picked
my bag and left, arrived in Kitengela at 7.30, “she said.
An hour
after the visit, Diana was told that her mother had passed on.
While
raising a family, Diana says she is conscious about how she wants to bring up
her family differently.
She says
when her marriage to Bahati was still new, she had anger that she might havepicked from her childhood experience.
