Understanding the risks of Male Circumcision

In the most recent case, 18 boys were admitted to various hospitals across the country after  botched procedures.

One is said to have died as a result of complications, while the other needs specialized screen grafting surgery.

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin, which is the skin that covers the tip of the penis. 

The procedure is relatively common in some parts of the world, including the United States, and is often performed for cultural, religious, or personal reasons.

Here are eight potential risks or dangers associated with circumcision

1. Pain: Circumcision is a surgical procedure that involves cutting the skin, and it can be painful. Some studies have found that newborns who are circumcised experience pain and show increased levels of stress hormones in response to the procedure.
2. Bleeding: There is a risk of bleeding during and after the circumcision procedure. In rare cases, bleeding can be severe and may require additional medical attention.
3. Infection: There is a risk of infection following circumcision, although this risk can be reduced through proper hygiene and wound care.
4. Damage to the penis: There is a risk of injury to the penis during the circumcision procedure, which can lead to scarring or other problems with the appearance or function of the penis.
5. Risk of complications: In rare cases, circumcision may result in complications such as difficulty with the healing process, nerve damage, or problems with the blood supply to the penis.
6. Ethical concerns: Some people have raised ethical concerns about circumcision, arguing that the procedure is a form of unnecessary surgery that is performed on individuals who are unable to give their informed consent.

8. Risk of death: While very rare, there have been cases where circumcision has resulted in death. This is more likely to occur in cases where the procedure is performed by an untrained individual or in unsterile conditions.
