How to get a licence to conduct a Christian or Hindu wedding
Audio By Vocalize
Whether you’ve been with your significant
other for several years or several months, getting married is a huge rite of
passage that those lucky enough to experience will probably cherish for the
rest of their lives.
With the
times changing however, most modern couples have gradually taken a liking to
smaller, private and more intimate weddings in favour of traditional ones
which are often stressful events that focus less on
the couple and more on the accompanying party.
The demand for private weddings has led to
the mushrooming of independent, ordained officials who can officiate wedding
ceremonies from almost any part of the globe, Kenya included.
If you are looking to officiate your first
Christian or Hindu wedding, here are a few things you need to keep in mind
before you can join a couple in holy matrimony.
To help you out, we have compiled a list of
steps you need to follow in order to obtain the required wedding officiating
license to do so.
Apply on
the e-Citizen platform - You can
easily apply for a wedding officiating license by visiting the government’s e-Citizen
platform and filling in the application form. It is a very straight forward
process but you will be required to attach a copy of your ID card or passport
and a copy of your minister’s license.
Clear
application fee - Once you make your digital
application, you will part ways with Ksh. 600, on the same e-Citizen platform,
to facilitate its approval
Schedule verification interview - As
your application request is being processed it is mandatory to avail yourself
for an interview with e-Citizen officials who will verify your credentials.
This will be done 21 days after making the initial application request
Pay
licensing fee - Should your credentials be
verified, Ksh.800 or Ksh.7,200 will be required to obtain a license for either
a church or garden wedding respectively depending on the type of wedding you
are going to officiate.
Officiate the wedding - Once
you obtain all necessary licenses, you will be given at most 90 days to
officiate any wedding of your choice.
