25 students in court for burning Njoro, Kirobon girls’ secondary school dorms

Students from Njoro Girls High School and Kirobon Girls Secondary in Nakuru County were on Tuesday arraigned before a Nakuru court and charged with burning down of two dormitories.

The 25 students who appeared before Judge Bernard Mararo, were charged with burning down of dormitories in the two schools that housed about 400 students. They all pleaded not guilty.

The students were arrested on Monday and locked at the Njoro and Menengai police stations.

Prosecution’s proposal to hold the students for five more days flopped after their lawyer argued they are underage hence it’s against the law to keep them in the cells for long.

Judge Mararo released them on a Ksh.50,000 bond each and ordered they be presented in court on Friday. He also  ordered the students present themselves at the Njoro and Menengai police stations everyday at 8:00am.

Rongai Member of Parliament Raymond Moi said the girls’ parents must be held liable of rebuilding the dormitories.
