312 out of 3,252 applicants to be hired as TSC interns in Kisii

312 graduates are set to be hired as Teachers Service Commission (TSC) interns in Kisii as interviews kicked off on Tuesday.

221 of them will be placed in secondary schools while 91 will be sent to primary schools, Kisii County TSC Director Nimrod Kimathi said.

“A total of 3,252 graduates applied for the internship position from the county of Kisii,” he said.

The TSC Director noted that certificates were verified following applications online.

Quality of certificate and year of graduation were carefully screened, he said.

Speaking after launching the exercise, Mr. Kimathi reiterated the TSC interns will work for 12 months on a non-renewable contract.

Kimathi said the internship will help the graduates gain experience and relevant work skills.

Successful applicants will earn a stipend of Ksh. 15,000 and Ksh. 10,000 per month for secondary and primary schools respectively.

TSC had announced vacancies for 10,300 interns across the country last month.

Applications were to be uploaded online by October 23 in an exercise that seeks to increase the number of teachers countrywide.

The requirements were as follows:

  • registration with TSC in line with Section 23(1) of the Teachers Service Commission Act Cap 212
  • 35 years or below
  • personal accident insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period
  • minimum of P1 certificate for those seeking primary posts
  • minimum of Diploma in Education for those seeking secondary posts
