4 IEBC officials dismissed for allegedly meeting a candidate at their home in Homa Bay

Four officials from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were on Sunday arrested for allegedly meeting a candidate at their residence in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.

The four who comprise two presiding officers were forked out of the political aspirant’s residence by angry citizens who then handed them to the police.

According to the Homa Bay County elections manager, the four have already been struck off the list of IEBC officials conducting Tuesday’s polls.

The elections body is in the process of replacing them as police conduct investigations into the alleged meeting.

Police have meanwhile assured that the four will be brought to book for being in contravention of the Electoral Code of Conduct.

The latest comes just a day after an incident of violence was witnessed in the county over the weekend as supporters of two gubernatorial candidates clashed during their final parallel rallies.

Three people were injured in the Saturday mayhem which saw ODM candidate Gladys Wanga’s supporters clash with those aligned to her independent counterpart Dr Evans Kidero even before the two candidates arrived for the rallies.

Several vehicles were also pelted with stones.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan at the time said they were still investigating the incident to ensure all culprits are brought to book, but as of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.
