An autopsy report conducted on the body of Getrude Nyaboke, who was found buried in a shallow grave next to her husband’s home in Borabu, Nyamira County, has revealed that she was hit with a blunt object at the back of her head.

The report from Gucha sub-county hospital also reveals that Nyaboke's hands had been tied before she was strangled.

Nyaboke's husband of one year, Brian Rioba, is in police custody after preliminary investigations placed him as the main suspect; the two are reported to have been having marital issues.

The body of the 21-year-old woman was exhumed on Monday after the family obtained a court order.

Nyaboke, who was undergoing teaching practice at Nderema school, was reported missing last week, and later neighbors reported of a suspected shallow grave meters away from her marital home.

Nyaboke sister, Everline Nyanchama, said: “Huyo kijana alikuwa amechimba hiyo kaburi, chini alikuwa ametanguliza mbao, akamweka alafu akaweka mbao zingine…kwa kichwa alikuwa amemfunika na gunia.”

The autopsy report on her body that was found stuffed in a sack revealed that her hands had marks subsequent to getting tied, and that she was hit with a blunt object at the back of her head before being strangled.

Borabu sub-county Police Commander Josephat Chacha said: “Before she died, she was strangled…this strangulation, we believe, the person did not want her to make noise.”

According to Mr. Chacha, based on the analysis at the crime scene, the murder was conducted by more than one person.

Nyaboke’s husband, who is the main suspect, is in custody at Riotonyi Police Station and will be arraigned on November 2, 2022; this as investigations to nab more suspected killers intensify.

“I may not say whom we may go for, but I believe there are more persons who were together with the accused person (in committing the crime). There is no stone that we shall leave unturned,” added the police boss.

The family of Nyaboke has asked the security agencies to hasten the investigations process and bring their kin's killers to book.

Her body is currently lying at Gucha sub-county hospital mortuary.
