Detectives have confirmed that the body
found dumped in Makongo forest along the Machakos-Wote road in Makueni County
over the weekend belongs to Campbell Scott, the British national who went missing last week in Nairobi.
Scott, a 58-year-old senior director at
global data analytics company FICO was last seen on Monday, February 17 at
11:15 AM in Nairobi.
On his business trip to Kenya, he was set
to meet with officials from the US, UK, and several African nations.
After failing to reach him later that day,
concerned parties reported the matter to authorities.
On Saturday, February 22, locals grazing in
Makongo Forest found a sack containing a decomposing body.
Upon closer inspection, authorities
revealed the body had been bound with ropes, and its face was severely burnt.
Detectives investigating the scene suggest the
burns may have been deliberately inflicted, possibly with acid, to conceal the
victim’s identity.
The body was also surrounded by pineapples,
which they also suspect could be part of an attempt to mislead people into
thinking the body was related to a shipment of pineapples.
Francis Kanyaa, the area assistant chief said
at that time, they were unable to identify the body, whose remains were
transferred to Makueni Referral Hospital for further examination.
On Monday, February 24, homicide detectives revisited the scene to gather more evidence and investigate the circumstances further. Sources close to the investigation told Citizen Digital the body had been positively identified as Scott’s.
Authorities are working to
piece together the events leading to his tragic death and determine the motives
behind it.
