Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday announced that 124 more patients had tested positive for COVID-19 from 2,640 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

CS Kagwe, speaking during the daily briefings at Afya House in Nairobi, said 119 of the new cases are Kenyans while 2 are Somalis, another 2 are Tanzanians and 1 Eritrean national; making up 100 males and 24 females.

The cases were recorded in various counties such as Mombasa (40), Nairobi (38), Busia (26), Kajiado (6), as well as Murang’a, Kajiado, and Elgeyo Marakwet among others; taking the total number of counties affected so far to 36.

The CS further stated that 39 patients had since been discharged from various health centers, hence the total number of recoveries now stands at 592.

He, however, also stated that 4 patients had died in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of fatalities to 78.

“I want to thank Kenyans who have taken the containment measures seriously and followed them strictly. I appeal to those who haven’t joined us in this war to do so,” he stated.

CS Kagwe added that the government had disbursed Ksh.5 billion conditional grant to all 47 counties to boost COVID-19 response and preparedness.
