Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has declared parts of Laikipia, Meru, and Isiolo counties as security-disturbed and dangerous to allow a major operation targeting criminals behind recent attacks.

In a Special Gazette Notice, CS Murkomen stated that the order takes effect on Thursday, March 26, from 6:00 pm and will last for one month.

Upon continued assessment of the order, CS Murkomen noted that the notice may be revoked at any time or continued for a further period.

In Laikipia North, the areas comprise Mugogodo, Sieku, Makuriani and Doldol.

In Tigania East Sub-County, they include Mlima Rasta (Kamberia Sub-location), Mlima Lombolio (Kamberia Sub-location), Mworontoi Belt (Gambela Sub-location) and Nyambene Game Reserve.

Parts of Isiolo North Sub-County include Sarova Game Reserve (Manyatta Zebra Sub-location), Lowarengishu Hills (Eremet Sub-location), Mutunyi Hills and Loruku Hills (Loruku Sub-location).

The Ngatho Dam area in Antuambui Sub-location, Igembe North Sub-county, was also flagged.

CS Murkomen noted that the order follows earlier interventions by the government to enhance security in the region such as the deployment of 400 additional police officers and the mop-up process of illegal firearms.

"We shall intensify our efforts until banditry is completely eradicated in these areas and criminal networks dismantled," Murkomen posted on X.
