Education Cabinet Secretary nominee Ezekiel Machogu has an estimated net worth of Ksh.590 million.

Machogu made the revelation during vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on Friday, stating that he has accumulated the said wealth through land acquisitions, and ownership of residential buildings and luxury vehicles.

Machogu said he owns about seven residential apartments in Nairobi County, another in Mombasa, as well as two pieces of land; one in Nairobi and 30 acres in Kisii County.

“I have buildings in Nairobi, three buildings in Eastlands specifically Jogoo Road, another in Pangani area, an apartment in Milimani, at Kileleshwa and another near Yaya Centre," Machogu said.

"I also have an apartment in Mombasa, Shanzu area, at Ngong, a piece of land, rightly a quarter of an acre along Ngong Road, a plot, not yet built in Kisii town and also have 30 acres of land in Kisii. I also own vehicles; a Mercedes Benz and a Toyota V8.”

The former Nyaribari Masaba MP says he has served in the public service for 38 years having been a District Officer and later District Commissioner.

Born in Kisii County, Machogu went to Homa Bay for his A-levels before he joined the University of Nairobi in 1976 to 1979 where he attained a Bachelor in Arts degree.

He was thereafter employed in the Civil Service, serving as DC in over more than eight counties, including Kimbu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Nandi, Busia and Wajir among other regions such as Rift Valley and Coast.

Similarly, the CS designate recalled his appointments in the Public Service Commission (PSC), specifically in about three ministries.

“I was transferred in Central Government, in many ministries among them the Public Service Commission…Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and East African Affairs as the Senior Deputy Secretary, and finally as Senior Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Trade before retiring in October 2016,” he explained

Among his key life achievements, Mochogu says he was feted by late President Daniel Moi for being the overall best-performing DC in the country, in matters of education and development.
