Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has denounced clan-based politics, just days after leaders from 39 Mbeere clans endorsed his 2017 gubernatorial candidature.
Kivuti declared that he would focus on cohesion, since segregating the electorate into tribes and clans is detrimental to the cohesion of Embu County.
The governor asserted that he did not want to become a tribal chief, adding that his aim is to unite all people living within the county.
Speaking at Kiritiri Full Gospel Church when he joined Mbeere South residents for Sunday service, the Senator urged voters to shun politicians whose only aim is to enrich themselves.
The Senator stated that he believed he had done a good job representing Embu at the Senate, since he had fought for increment of county budgetary allocations every year.
Kivuti said the County Government had failed to make good use of the funds allocated for development because local leaders were not focused and united.
Kivuti, who was accompanied by Mavuria Ward MCA Joseph Mwaniki, urged the electorate to take stock of the performance of elected leaders at county level. He asked them to use this scorecard to decide whether they should re-elect syiing leaders.
The Senator later joined residents of Kiritiri market for a cup of tea at a local kiosk.
