Ex-Ethiopian President Teshome to lead IGAD election observer team to Kenya

The International Authority on Development (IGAD) is set to send a team
to Kenya to observe the general election set for August 9, 2022.
This after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
(IEBC) sent an invite to the authority, as confirmed on IGAD’s portal.
The delegation will be led by former Ethiopian President
Mulatu Teshome, and IGAD says they are honoured to be invited by IEBC to observe
this year’s general election.
“IGAD is honoured to be invited by Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission of Kenya to observe this year’s general elections, and
the regional organisation is pleased to continue to work with the people of
Kenya, electoral institution, political leaders, and other observer missions to
advance the democratisation process,” stated a statement by IGAD’s Executive
Secretary Workneh.
The eight member state that includes Kenya, Somalia, South
Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea and Djibouti is pleased to have former
Ethiopian President Teshome to lead the election observer mission.
“We are pleased also to that H.E DR Mulatu Teshome will lead
the IGAD election observer mission. He is a well-respected statesman and a
distinguished diplomat.”
