The Senate has described Turkana as a crime scene embedded in multi-billion shillings corruption, through scandalous stalled projects effected by the county government.

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai told the Parliamentary watchdog inspecting the stalled projects that the financial discrepancies were effected by the leadership of his predecessor Josphat Nanok, and called for Investigating agencies to unearth the alleged corruption and bring to book those culpable.

The Ksh.800 million office of the Governor of Turkana is yet to be completed and occupied, 8 years after commencement of construction.

The County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC) was told by the current contractor on site that the initial cost of the project was Ksh.600 million, but was raised by an additional Ksh.200 million.

Despite the storey building lacking power connectivity, about 30 air conditioners costing millions of shillings were installed.

The next stop is the incomplete official residence of the Governor that is still under construction.

According to the Senator Moses Kajwang-led committee, Ksh.200 million was pumped into the project, followed with an additional Ksh.90 million.

“This is an official crime scene where billions have been corruptly injected through stalled projects,” declared Senator Kajwang.

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai squarely blamed the leadership of his predecessor for the alleged corruption.

“It’s an issue we discovered as soon as we took over...There are other financial discrepancies in other projects too,” said the Governor.

Earlier this week, during examination of audit queries at the Turkana County Assembly, Governor Lomorukai revealed that the Assumption of office of Governor declared a pending bill worth Ksh.7.2 billion in its handover report.

However, after verification, the eligible pending bills amounted to only Ksh.2 billion.
