Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) and CS for
Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has dismissed reports of his alleged affiliation
with a new political outfit formed by his allies following ANC’s merger with
the ruling UDA party.
Mudavadi’s UDA merged with President
William Ruto’s UDA in January, and sections of the media report that the Prime
CS’s allies have formed the Umoja Summit Party (USP) with his blessings.
In a statement on Sunday, Mudavadi, through
his Director of Press Service, Jacob Ng’etich, refuted the claims, saying he “remains committed” to serving President Ruto’s
government and “has absolutely no intention of joining another political
outfit.”
“Dr Mudavadi is
firmly in the Government under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Administration led by
H.E. Dr William Samoei Ruto,” the statement read.
It added that the move
to merge ANC and UDA was voluntary and endorsed by party members.
Following the UDA-ANC merger, officials
noted that no party had lost its identity to the other in the union.
The UDA faction, chaired by Cecily Mbarire,
saw its name, logo, symbol, and overall brand overhauled.
ANC Party Leader and
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy became the UDA Deputy Party Leader, while ANC
Chairperson Kelvin Lunani deputised Mbarire as Vice Chairman.
At the same time,
Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba deputised UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.
