Former minister Karisa Maitha’s widow dies

Alice Maitha, the widow of the late Tourism Minister Karisa Maitha, is dead.

The family, through the daughter Juney Karisa confirmed Mrs. Maitha’s death saying she passed on at the Coast General Hospital aged 53.

“To those who paid us a visit at the Coast General Hospital and to those who couldn’t make it, we express our sincere gratitude. We as the family will communicate on any other arrangements later,” read a statement by Ms. Karisa.

According to the family, burial plans are underway at the family’s Shanzu home.

Mrs. Maitha, who unsuccessfully contested the Mombasa Senatorial seat in the 2013 General Election, was the third wife of the late minister who died of a heart attack in 2004.

Mr. Maitha died while on an official visit to Germany to market Kenya as a tourist destination.
