The raid, conducted on Tuesday, targeted a bar and wines and spirits outlet operating less than 100 metres from Kauwi Senior School, in violation of regulations that prohibit alcohol outlets within 300 metres of learning institutions.
During the operation, officers recovered more than 900 cartons of assorted spirits and over 250 crates of suspected counterfeit alcohol packaged in 500ml beer bottles. Preliminary findings indicate that the products bore fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) excise stamps, suggesting tax evasion and raising public health concerns.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr Anthony Omerikwa said the proximity of the outlet to a school posed a significant risk to children. He cited national data indicating early exposure to drugs and substance use among minors, arguing that enforcement near learning institutions remains a priority.
The four suspects, including the alleged proprietor and three employees, were taken into custody and are expected to be arraigned in court. Authorities said the seized alcohol has been secured for verification and further analysis, and that asset recovery proceedings may follow as investigations continue.
The operation was carried out with support from officers drawn from the National Police Service.
